RESETSSION....My notes and Overview
RESETSSION ! This is not a typographical error rather it was the
theme of the grand event organized by Uche Ahubelem Center for Human
Development (UACHD) which held at Shell Hall, Muson Centre at Onikan Lagos on
Wednesday 23rd, 2017. The event had a lineup of great speakers, life-coaches,
entrepreneurs and captains of industries.
The sole aim of the conference was to inspire and mentor
young people with a view to helping them rethink, reinvent and re-channel
their energy while giving fresh drive to their dreams in this period of
recession.
UACHD is the brain child of Mr Uche Ahubelem, a highly
motivated and results-oriented executive specializing in growth, turn
around and value creation. This seasoned motivational speaker and business man
is the Group Managing Director, CEO of Brick Wall Group of Companies,
with investments cut across a wide range from Real estate, Construction, Transport,
Oil and Gas, Shipping and Entertainment.
Uche Ahubelem Center for Human Development. (UACHD) is a not for
profit organization which started in 2015 with the main aim of spotting,
nurturing and equipping the Nigerian youth with the right tools and resources
for them to excel in any chosen fields. UACHD has launched many viable projects
since inception and core at the center of its belief is that national
infrastructure is a waste without human infrastructure.
The programme tagged 'resetssion' which is a blend of two words
'reset' and recession was the 5th edition of the UACHD flagship programme. The
seminar which was well attended by many participants was targeted at helping
young entrepreneurs and individuals overcome challenges while using recession
as a center-point while giving them fresh paradigms within which they can
rethink, re-invent and re-position themselves.
The programme had a lineup of 7 great Speakers who all did great
justice to their topics and shared great value with all participants. The
lineup of speakers were made up of Mr Lanre Olusola,Africa's premier Life, Mind,
Emotions and Behavioral Coach, Ms Abimbola Adebakin,Mr Debo Adejana,an astute
real estate entrepreneur, Mrs Ini Abimbola, Prof Pat Utomi, Prof. Charles
Soludo and the 7th Speaker who was the convener himself Mr Uche Ahubelem.
The programme which began with an opening prayer by Olusegun Ore
(Head ICT, Brickwall group), welcome adrress by K. D Oniyide (Project
Coordinator) followed by introduction of UACHD by Chioma Ogbona (Administrative
Secretary of UACH) and Sponsor's address was read by Zainab Maduagwu. The event
was further spiced up with Break, Question and Answer (Q&A) sessions and
refreshments.
There was so much value shared by the speakers, the first
speaker Mr Lanre Olusola, founder of Olusola Lanre Coaching Academy shared
extensively on 13 mistakes people make during a recession, part of these are,
lack of strategic financial plan, lack of emotional intelligence, gratefulness
and others.
The other speakers did justice to their topics and the event
went on into a very rich Q&A session from which many questions were
entertained and value was also shared.
Some of the points made by the speakers in the Q&A before
delving into final words were; Prof Charles Soludo former Central bank
Governor and economist noted that the need for personal responsibility that
"nobody will teach you how to be great" adding that "you have to
know yourself and follow your passion.."
Mrs Ini Abimbola, CEO and Lead Consultant at Thistle Prixis
Consulting Limited noted that not everybody can go through the rigours of being
an entrepreneur but that people need to search themselves for grit, gut and
determination to start and go through, she said this while sharing from her
experience.
Prof Pat Utomi, leadership and entrepreneurship expert while
answering a question noted that we all have been called to be entrepreneurs or
'co-creators with God' according to the Scriptures in Genesis 2:15 but not
everyone responds to this call, he further shared that success is good but
impact is better and everyone should strive for impact in the long run.
Ms Abimbola Adebakin, CEO for Advantage Health Africa while
answering a question on capital reveals her belief in possibility of
starting a business on zero capital with right priorities and
emphasis placed on building sufficient intellectual and social capital the
Certified performance Technologist and former COO of Tony Elumelu Foundation in
her final words urged participants to seek to apply acquired knowledge to the
end of achieving desired results as this justifies the investment of time and
resources into the event.
Mr Uche also reiterated the need for self-discovery and follows
one's path to success.
I had a great time at the event where I did glean all I could
for the short time I was there. I also had a wonderful time networking and joyfully
gave away two copies of my book, Bright Ideas, to two of the Speakers.
Big thanks to the organizers for this empowerment program. The
event was a success and I believe more testimonies of Successful entrepreneurs
will arise from this event.
