LESSONS FROM MY 30-DAY BLOGGING CHALLENGE

LESSONS FROM MY 30-DAY BLOGGING CHALLENGE

About 30 days ago I took it on myself to begin a 30 day blogging challenge on this blog. I decided to blog and share every day , here are a couple of lessons I learnt from the experience. What more is there to do than to share the lessons and move on to another challenge- a 30 day gratitude challenge!

First, Enjoy the lessons!

1. The Universe loves consistency: Everything in nature has been designed to be consistent. We have always had nothing short of 12 calendar months. The seasons and even the elements are all consistent in their natural order. Therefore nature is consistent and it is naturally logical that anything consistent in its purpose wins, after all the deliberately consistent effort of a running brook wears out rocks.

2. Success is tied to Momentum: It is through motion that a body builds momentum. When you are already moving you have more tendency to gather speed and "SUCCESS LOVES SPEED!”. Whatever moves possesses energy, from laws of physics, kinetic energy is the energy a body has due to its motion. From the conscious effort of moving towards my goal, I can gather momentum, gain speed, generate more energy and in effect attract more success in the long run.

3. In the school of Goals, frequency trumps magnitude: Most times a little effort every day takes you closer to your goals than a huge inconsistent effort. Confucius made it clear that "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a step". So a few strokes of the brush on a regular pattern can create a masterpiece only capable of by the master stroke of a Picasso.

Kindly follow me on www.greatness.podbean.com as I debut with more of these lessons and some other inspirational podcasts.

See you in my next post on the 30 days of Gratitude.

A SHORT STORY ON PEOPLE AND OPINIONS

DAY 30 of 30 (We made it!)

A wise man makes his own decisions, an ignorant man follows the public opinion.
Grantland Rice

A RECAP:

In the previous post we set the pace for tonight's discussion on opinions. I affirmed that opinions are about the cheapest commodity and every body has them. As a recap, It's always wise to get honest opinions from a few stakeholders and and it is even wiser to know when to move on. If somebody will have to get everybody's opinion, he will end up doing nothing, because nobody gets nothing done by listening to everybody's opinion.

Today, I will illustrate this with a short story!.....

Once upon a time in the land of Laos, there lived a wealthy old merchant who had only one son. Together they both set out on a journey to sell an old donkey in the biggest market in the region. This market was a few miles away from where they lived,so they woke up in the morning and embarked on their journey and began to go, they went on and on pulling the donkey to be sold behind them with the mark "DONKEY FOR SALE".

As they progressed on their journey, they passed through some grasslands with fresh pastures,so the Father decided to feed the donkey, as the the donkey ate some grass, the people passing bye walked up to the man and asked " why feed this donkey, if you would be selling it? You better go quickly and sell it to its prospective buyer". The old merchant nodded "How true! we must continue quickly to the market"

The merchant and his son continued pulling their donkey on the way, not too long they came across a company of friends, who stopped and told them, you father and son , you walk on foot like fools while your donkey goes empty with no burdens!", 'What wisdom!' the Father exclaimed, he mounted the donkey with his son and they continued their journey riding on the donkey.

The Father and son enjoyed their ride on the donkey for a while as they continued towards a bridge before the cattle market. After going on for less than a mile, they met some people coming back from the market, "what a wicked merchant this is! they wondered "You and your son riding on the poor donkey, what a huge burden, this donkey might likely die on the journey" . The merchant thought " Why didn't we think about this?" So he got down and he decided to carry the Donkey together with his son.

As they began to move on, they were crossing the bridge carrying the donkey in their hands, the donkey slipped and fell over the bridge into the river... the son shouted 'alas father, what shall we do?" "Nothing!" the Father answered, " There is nothing that can be done to please everybody" "This is an expensive lesson son, deciding to please everyone is the best recipe for failure"
"This is an expensive lesson son, deciding to please everyone is a recipe for failure"

The moral of the story is summed up in Bill Cosby's quote

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.

Bill Cosby

Value opinions, however, remember, a great man takes responsibility for his decisions.

Go achieve greatness!

PEOPLE AND OPINIONS

DAY 29 of 30

Opinions! Everybody's got them. Some people offer it cheaply, while a few others wait until it is asked for. opinions can be the cheapest commodity, after all, every one is entitled to his own opinion. If you will set about any major feat it's good to get a handful of great opinions from people, however just like a student researching for a thesis, my University Dean once advised 'you need to know when to stop reading and start writing'.

It's always wise to get a honest opinion from a few stakeholders and move on. If somebody will have to get everybody's opinion, he will end up doing nothing, because nobody gets nothing done by listening to everybody's opinion. I will illustrate this with another short story in my next post....after all, a man has got to do what he's got to do.

cheers!

HOLD ON! A STORY

28 OF 30

HOLD ON! A STORY

"When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you till it seems you could not hold on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn."
-- Harriet Beecher Stowe, author

One major reasons why people do not succeed, is giving up not only on their way to success but also giving up too soon. I will illustrate this with a story.

Long ago, there lived in a small village an old carpenter called Makanjuola (Makanjuola means never be hasty or in a deadly rush to get wealthy) he and the wife were so poor they could not afford three square meals but he was known for being truthful.
A man of high integrity he continued to work hard to cater for his beautiful wife and their son whom they named Iforiti (Iforiti means endurance) for so many years.

One afternoon the young son told his Father, "Dad, I will love to go to the big city and acquire skills for which I can make a living and find my path" The Dad agreed and off he went leaving his Mum with tears in her eyes.

In their son's absence, the couple continued to live and work hard despite their poor conditions. They were poor for many years expecting the return of their son, who never came back.
They grew old and lived in their old hut for so many years.

One fateful night the old man was called upon by the Village's chief for his assistance, he was to help a stranger who has lost his way pass the night till the next day when he was going to retrace his path.

So they went off to Makanjuola's house.

on getting home the couple apologized for not serving dinner as they had no food. The stranger was kind enough, so he opened his box which they found was full of money and he gave them some cash to buy some food, the stranger bid them goodnight after the dinner and went to bed.

At midnight the wife woke up the husband and they spoke in very low tones. " My husband if we do not get rich tonight, it might as well be the end for us ever" "how do you mean? he asked. The wife explained their need to kill the stranger so they could have all the money in the box.

So they went ahead and killed him and kept the money.

When the chief came for the stranger in the morning they lied to him that the stranger had run away.

The chief was surprised and told the couple the stranger's story and his name was Iforiti. When Makanjuola heard this he fell to the ground and died. When the wife also realized they killed their son,.she screamed, confessed and died.

Like iforiti- Endurance is a virtue needed in holding on.

Keep holding to GREATNESS!

#SPIRITUALITY: The Way of Love

1 Corinthians 13 The Message (MSG)

The Way of Love
13 If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate.

2 If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, “Jump,” and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing.

3-7 If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.

Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.
8-10 Love never dies. Inspired speech will be over some day; praying in tongues will end; understanding will reach its limit. We know only a portion of the truth, and what we say about God is always incomplete. But when the Complete arrives, our incompletes will be canceled.

11 When I was an infant at my mother’s breast, I gurgled and cooed like any infant. When I grew up, I left those infant ways for good.

12 We don’t yet see things clearly. We’re squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won’t be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We’ll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us!

13 But for right now, until that completeness, we have three things to do to lead us toward that consummation: Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love.

ROMANCE 101: 3 THINGS EVERY GIRL WANTS IN EVERY RELATIONSHIP

It's a great day! Today I chose to break the ice, and write on the subject of relationship- romance especially.
Sitting with my special one in a cool eatery somewhere in western Nigeria, i decided to this post with her assistance.
So what does every girl want in a guy in a positive relationship.

1. Every girl wants committment.Any lady wants to be in a relationship where the other party is committed and it can be seen, felt and heard. She wants to be able to tell if you are and will always be there when it really matters.

2.Love and Affection: Nothing touches the heart of a lady like the unalloyed show of affection. There are no two ways about it. You see, relationships are like flowers that need to be tended to; love and affection are the main nutrients on which they thrive.

3.Communication: This is the life line of every relationship....i got to fly now!

Cheers,

MENTORSHIP DIARY 1: I GOT THE SCHOLARSHIP!

DAY 25 OF 30

In an earlier post tagged Mentorship 101, while I shared briefly on the need and value of mentorship, I also hinted on the fact that I was applying to a special mentorship session with my mentor alongside over 200 people from all walks of life. The good news I have however not shared is that I made it into the class and as a matter of fact the session with a targeted 200 participants eventually had over 600 people registering.

While I have not clearly revealed really anything about my mentor on this blog- i just didnt think it necessary initially but i might in the long run, I can provide answers when asked or you might as well read the hand writings on the wall...i will go on in my next post on my different mentors and my reaching out for a mentor and what scholarship I am talking about. If you would like to take a quick peep you can see my tweets under the harshtag #MentorshipWAA #TEAM3 . Remember my twitter handle again is @emmandus .

Be guided to greatness,

Emmanuel Ayeni
