LESSONS FROM A MISSING TICKET

Lessons from a missing ticket.
I have learnt to always keep my tickets till the destination. It happened that I learnt my lessons some years ago while on-board the old and regular BRT (Lagos, city) bus, the Ticketer approached me as we got to a new station and all I could to do was plead because I unsuspectingly had thrown away my ticket... At that time, I surely was just like anyone who got on-board for free, tagging along without  any tickets. My only excuse-I threw away my ticket just before I got to the destination!
So recently, especially as I wrote this on-board one of the fanciful new commercial blue buses in Lagos- those new buses that are known for their cool Air-conditioning and the colorful lights, I sat on-board and thought on different things from work, to career and then politics and Nigeria's transportation system, why we should have more of these on our roads against the old dirty yellow buses… The Ticketer approached from the distance doing a final check...my mind flashed between the thoughts of what to say if I couldn't find my ticket and I was also blaming myself for not learning my lessons enough to have thrown away the ticket, this time, the last thing I remembered about my ticket was ruffling it as I got it...I set down the book I was reading , it was something on Personal Finance: How To Make Your First Million by Albert O. Aina, a turn off I guess for some folks but I have learnt to go for anything on the subjects of business, Wealth and Success...After all , I wasn’t taught a class  in any of these in the  wonderful 5 years I studied Engineering  at the University… nobody was taught much, if at all about money  within the four walls of the University while I was there, even recently, the curriculum hasn't changed yet,...
I woke up from reading ,dreaming and thinking and reached into my pocket as the Ticketer stopped in my front waiting for my bus ticket..
And there in my wallet was the crinkled  ticket  which showed that I paid my fare and I should be allowed to the destination.
I sat back and then I felt the need to share, to blog this and take this as a lesson in success, goal setting and life's journey.
We are constantly on a journey in life and no matter our destination-  success, wealth, fame or true greatness,  there is always a ticket that permits our thoroughfare..
It is easy to lose the ticket, to lose,  roughen, ruffle it or throw it away especially if it is a long trip and believe me, it usually is a long journey to anything worthwhile , even Nelson Mandela’s  book title describes it as  a Long Walk To Freedom..
No matter where you are heading, keep your dreams. Your Dream is your ticket anywhere you would rather be, and like your  ticket, it validates your reasons to be on-board the bus heading to your  great  destination and with God's grace, we will arrive safely.

Enjoy your Journey to Greatness!

Coming to Lagos.

Coming to Lagos.
I am sure  we all remember the very popular movie of the 90s Coming to America, but not many of us know how great a phenomenon Coming to Lagos was for many of us- at least, for me it was, back then as a young school boy born in Ibadan, Oyo state and brought up in Osogbo, Osun state- both states are in Nigeria, West Africa.I always looked forward to coming to Lagos during my holidays.
Those days, Lagos was held in high regard as a land of beauty and wits- I believe it's still a centre of excellence. A while ago  I thought it's crazy and adventurous- but my mum always said " wait till you get to New York"
So that was the Lagos of my childhood, one that people described with different features.
The first and most notable was also described in the words of a popular Yoruba Musician, saying on entering Lagos, " Wa pade awon ere meta, / agbagba meta, ikan ni, o gbodo rindin, ikeji ni ogbodo suegbe, iketa ni  o gbodo ya mungun l'Eko" intreprations: You will meet 3 statues on entering Lagos one says 'don't dull, the second says 'shine your eyes' and the third says never become a 'maga' in Lagos'

All that has been described both in vernacularly and colloquially sums up the fact that; Lagos seems to screams out loud a message that says BE SMART!
So in Lagos I see people running after something or something running after them;
I see people asleep in long staff buses early in the morning and then in the evenings to and from work. Yet Lagos is a beautiful place as well as some other places in Nigeria.
Whether you are 'Coming to America or " Coming to Lagos" Be Smart, Learn and be the very best God has destined you to be.
I am your billionaire coach.
Live smart!

WHOSE BLOG IS IT ANYWAY?

I pop a question....
This is my blogging space but much more I think it is yours. Why do I say that? Well, because I am here to serve you with the latest tips that will help you live a great life a step at a time. You are my highly esteemed reader and because of that, the blog is yours.
Well, I also feel it is mine too because I will also share some real life experiences, especially personal ones from which I have drawn a bit of lesson. For instance I have decided to share my blogging journey and a few of my other walks that might perhaps interest a few readers.
Wait a minute, what if I just write and nobody reads; I'll just sit here in a room in Lagos or write an article in the regular Lagos traffic-jam, like I am doing now (and I get to do that a lot these days) I mean writing or finishing my articles while commuting, thanks to the power of mobile- I presently use my handy functional blackberry curve though I still remain an android lover. So, back to the point, if I write and nobody reads, then to me no work has been done!
So I think the blog is yours or perhaps mine….so what do you think???
Please use the social media buttons below to share with friends. I always appreciate and enjoy your feedback.

WRITING FOR MY NICHE ; AFRICA IN RETROSPECT

It was a wonderful Tuesday morning- a great day! I knew it and I was so sure that I stepped out to write an article about it. It’s a wonderful Tuesday morning- Terrific Tuesday! Not only was I off work, at my ‘new’ job -with a much different shift schedule, rather, it was a Terrific Tuesday morning- a rainy day!

So I sat at the sofa overlooking the garden from a sliding door and started on an entirely new mission; to churn out 100 quality articles for my blog.

Writing an article for my blog is a very important thing to me. A vital aspect off my life it has come to be, writing to me is a medium of expression, a platform to share my message, a channel to reach out to my clan. With a piece of article I reach out to many, numbers and distance notwithstanding even without paying attention to the borders or barriers of language and culture. Thank God for Technology.
I might not write on the everyday political ills or the disasters and wars in the Middle East. I believe the news does much justice to that and sometimes blows out much out of proportion, for instance talk about the case of western media painting the whole Africa as a poverty-ridden continent and leaving out transformational leadership exhibited in a place like Lagos Nigeria, and the groundbreaking educational project like ‘Opon-Imo ‘ Tablets for Schools’ first rolled out in Osun state Or how can we forget what transformations are taking place in countries like Ghana compared to what they used to be over the years. Yet the spotlight of western media on Africa has not changed much, if at all!
No hard feelings but I believe Africa lies amidst so much wealth her past woes or present challenges notwithstanding. I am so sure it’s just a matter of time till the Generation Y, show great leadership as so many of them have started doing, I believe Africa isn’t where it used to be on the USAID, UN or WHO development indices - thanks to aids and policies bothering around that but so much more it owes it more to the leverage of transformational leadership finding their foot holds in some countries or nations around that.
So rather than dwell so much on the news, I dwell so much on Change. The positive change we all believe in and hope to see, not only in Nigeria or Africa, but in the world at large. I advocate personal change because I believe that is the birth place of all other societal changes. Then I move on to the need for Organizational change and development because that is like a cantilever that touches all lives together and can break transnational bonds. This approach to change is what I believe imbibes the present and upcoming generation –Generation Y with the necessary values necessary for unleashing personal greatness and birthing global change. This is the fulcrum that can lift the world.
So in revealing my mission of 100 articles in 100 days or less. I will solely write around my niche by that I mean all that relates to National and Global Change. I will keep to my assignment to inspire greatness and the world’s best ideas in business, leadership and Life. I am a student of this school of change rather than a master of it, so I as well share all that I learn by personal experience, through interactions with the masters of the field and above all from major intercourse with great minds from books. Hence my reasons for some book reviews on my blog.

Doing book reviews on my blog for me is a very wonderful thing. I have always had a passion for books and I always believe I will author so many of them. Once while reviewing a book , I remembered a group conversation I had with couple of friends in a course mate’s room while at the University. One of us had tried to speculate what he sees every one doing in the future and he looked at me and said with certainty, above all possible things “You will be doing book reviews” . He’s way too right! I went on to do some book reviews on my blog which I had started back in school then and they have nice exposures, I mean book reviews rank among the popular posts on my blog today. A book review makes you an active reader. You read with a view to sharing at some points with the cap of a critic and an analyst on. It’s a step in progress and I currently look to how to better my best at it.

Finally I have come to the end of what was supposed to be a 750 word article! Considering the fact I don’t do that! I always think how many Nigerian wants to read a piece more than a 350 word article? And I just wrote over 750 words without breaking a sweat!
