MY SECOND TRAIN RIDE FROM IBADAN TO LAGOS

It is 16:12  in Ibadan, it is a beautiful sunny day on 21st August, 2024

Ibadan has this serene atmosphere with less bustling of Lagos you will also notice that serene atmosphere when you drive into Osun state as well from Gbongan-Odemu through Ede-Akoda into Osogbo.

A wonderful calm that makes it suit a wonderful day of a vacation.

I am at the train station at Omi Adio Ibadan..

It has been 3 wonderful days making   visits and functions  with family and friends across, Ede, Osogbo and Ibadan.

I have a ticket booked for me earlier this morning with departure time of 16:17

We are all seated at the departure lounge waiting to board  the train from here to Ebutte-Metta Station.

Many people will alight at different stops along the way.

The final bus stop is Ebutte Metta. While I will make my stop before then, this ticket existing in PDF form on my phone  covers my fare all the way.

I will not make a video of this trip, I did that on my first ride on my YouTube.  This is my second time on this route

I can hear some sounds from the distance....and people moving into a file..

How is your day going ?

Keep Rising to Greatness,

I am Emmanuel Ayeni

LESSONS FROM A MISSING TICKET

Lessons from a missing ticket.
I have learnt to always keep my tickets till the destination. It happened that I learnt my lessons some years ago while on-board the old and regular BRT (Lagos, city) bus, the Ticketer approached me as we got to a new station and all I could to do was plead because I unsuspectingly had thrown away my ticket... At that time, I surely was just like anyone who got on-board for free, tagging along without  any tickets. My only excuse-I threw away my ticket just before I got to the destination!
So recently, especially as I wrote this on-board one of the fanciful new commercial blue buses in Lagos- those new buses that are known for their cool Air-conditioning and the colorful lights, I sat on-board and thought on different things from work, to career and then politics and Nigeria's transportation system, why we should have more of these on our roads against the old dirty yellow buses… The Ticketer approached from the distance doing a final check...my mind flashed between the thoughts of what to say if I couldn't find my ticket and I was also blaming myself for not learning my lessons enough to have thrown away the ticket, this time, the last thing I remembered about my ticket was ruffling it as I got it...I set down the book I was reading , it was something on Personal Finance: How To Make Your First Million by Albert O. Aina, a turn off I guess for some folks but I have learnt to go for anything on the subjects of business, Wealth and Success...After all , I wasn’t taught a class  in any of these in the  wonderful 5 years I studied Engineering  at the University… nobody was taught much, if at all about money  within the four walls of the University while I was there, even recently, the curriculum hasn't changed yet,...
I woke up from reading ,dreaming and thinking and reached into my pocket as the Ticketer stopped in my front waiting for my bus ticket..
And there in my wallet was the crinkled  ticket  which showed that I paid my fare and I should be allowed to the destination.
I sat back and then I felt the need to share, to blog this and take this as a lesson in success, goal setting and life's journey.
We are constantly on a journey in life and no matter our destination-  success, wealth, fame or true greatness,  there is always a ticket that permits our thoroughfare..
It is easy to lose the ticket, to lose,  roughen, ruffle it or throw it away especially if it is a long trip and believe me, it usually is a long journey to anything worthwhile , even Nelson Mandela’s  book title describes it as  a Long Walk To Freedom..
No matter where you are heading, keep your dreams. Your Dream is your ticket anywhere you would rather be, and like your  ticket, it validates your reasons to be on-board the bus heading to your  great  destination and with God's grace, we will arrive safely.

Enjoy your Journey to Greatness!

BOOK REVIEW: THE STORY OF HELEN KELLER

I read this book about Helen Keller at the NYSC orientation camp at Ise Emure Ekitit State on the 30/11/2011 I still refer to it as the greatest inspirational story I read at the Youth Camp. In this short review I share lessons from this great woman.
Helen grew up without the sense of sight and sound but eventually learnt to conquer this and became a poet, author and a great inspiration to the world.
Here I share lessons learnt from the wonderful story of Helen Keller
1. We give up so much more by giving up.
2. The key of persistence will open the great door of impossibility no matter how long you try.
3. Everything has a name you might not just realize it yet!
4. The greatest key in her life was the strong desire and her unbeatable passion for learning. She knew what she wanted and would never be defeated before or while fighting for it.
5. She met and had contacts with many great people of her time, like Presidents of United States; President Cleveland and President Eisenhower, Mark Twain, Dr. Dale Carnegie, some Harvard Professors,Instructors and her personal Teacher; Ann Sullivan.
6. She refused to pay attention to what others would say about her disabilities or how she chose to rise above them, she refused to attract pity or pampering, and she chose to reach out to what God has for her in the Universe.
7. Most times our destinies which we must fulfill, lie in seemly unachievable and impossible realms, which we just must reach to take hold and make happen, for the greater good.
8. Opportunities are knocking, mostly in the form of great dreams, a difficult offer, or a puzzle or a question which we must ask ourselves over and over to reach for an answer in our subconscious.

Stay blessed

HAPPY DEMOCRACY DAY

May 29th is the anniversary of democracy in Nigeria, what makes this different is the fact that it is a transitional one. Today the baton of power has changed hands from Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and the former Vice President Arch. Aliyu Sambo to Gen. Muhammad Buhari and Prof. Osibajo the new President and Vice President, respectively, of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
It is no more news that these are challenging times for anyone who wins the election. The expectations are high. From issues regarding Security- in tackling Boko  Haram sects, Fuel subsidy , Energy situation in Nigeria, Education, our Foreign Reserves and lots more, the new occupants of the Aso Rock have a lot of work to do, Nigerians and as well the international community does not expect less in their delivery and execution of the change mandate they promise- the very wave that brought them into the office at the polls.
Change is here. A change in the occupant of the seat of power at the presidential level and consequently at different levels in turn- Gubernatorial and at legislative quarters changes many things. Q new wave of power will always have a new set of people rise with it.
As we congratulate our new President and his Vice President and as we expect the delivery of a new Nigeria, waiting to see the positive face of change, we must understand that, Change delivery is the collective responsibility of Nigerians, If we all, over140 million Nigerians will be the voice and agents of change in our various spheres, circles across all strata, we all will arrive at the shores of a new Nigeria- the greatest country to live, in the world sooner than we expect. Please read Mr President's inaugural speech shared in the next post.

Cheers to a new Nigeria!

FUEL SCARCITY: WHAT TO DO

Well Nigeria will be great but it's going first to turning point and at turning point dy/dx =0 (Maths, at turning point the rate of change tends to zero)
Gtb closing early, classic FM, beats and some other stations ran out of diesel, MTN gradually dwindling on diesel reserves
Other networks might follow suit but I think Globacom might come in last because the Rich man has got some oil...
We have had so many fuel issues as far as I can remember in the  90s, but more recently we can remember occupy Nigeria,  is this 'occupy Aso Rock?'
What I know right now is, this fuel scarcity is fast affecting everything like a chain reaction... Even transport fares are ballooning at all bus stops. According to Aljazeera, airlines are struck also by this #Fuelscarcity aerocontractor cancelled 80% of its test (sorry I meant to say flights) and Kenya airline and a couple others had to divert some flights from Nigeria.
Well what Nigerians can do at this time is Believe,  pray and also act.
Do not panic.Stay informed, tune in to some radio stations that can run for some hours and as PHCN isn't left out go on solar if you can or have the facility
Stock up on enough foodstuffs and of course try as much to have some cash handy if you still can, Food or  cash is king right now. Most banks will start closing early from today.
You can also save up data on multiple provider SIM cards if you can. Imagine! Just yesterday, I heard a couple tell some one they travelled early to Ibadan from Lagos to buy fuel. (Ibadan is in Oyo state in Nigeria, about 2hours drive from Lagos). Schools might go on some breaks if this lingers.
I don't have any information at the moment,as to any negotiations going on to salvage  the situation or where to buy fuel at the moment. But you can share any info with us all in the comments section or also follow discussions on Twitter via #FuelScarcity.

I still believe in the greatness of Nigeria.

Coming to Lagos.

Coming to Lagos.
I am sure  we all remember the very popular movie of the 90s Coming to America, but not many of us know how great a phenomenon Coming to Lagos was for many of us- at least, for me it was, back then as a young school boy born in Ibadan, Oyo state and brought up in Osogbo, Osun state- both states are in Nigeria, West Africa.I always looked forward to coming to Lagos during my holidays.
Those days, Lagos was held in high regard as a land of beauty and wits- I believe it's still a centre of excellence. A while ago  I thought it's crazy and adventurous- but my mum always said " wait till you get to New York"
So that was the Lagos of my childhood, one that people described with different features.
The first and most notable was also described in the words of a popular Yoruba Musician, saying on entering Lagos, " Wa pade awon ere meta, / agbagba meta, ikan ni, o gbodo rindin, ikeji ni ogbodo suegbe, iketa ni  o gbodo ya mungun l'Eko" intreprations: You will meet 3 statues on entering Lagos one says 'don't dull, the second says 'shine your eyes' and the third says never become a 'maga' in Lagos'

All that has been described both in vernacularly and colloquially sums up the fact that; Lagos seems to screams out loud a message that says BE SMART!
So in Lagos I see people running after something or something running after them;
I see people asleep in long staff buses early in the morning and then in the evenings to and from work. Yet Lagos is a beautiful place as well as some other places in Nigeria.
Whether you are 'Coming to America or " Coming to Lagos" Be Smart, Learn and be the very best God has destined you to be.
I am your billionaire coach.
Live smart!

IT BEGAN IN IBADAN! ;THE ICE BREAKER

It's a great day! It's my birhday! And today amidst the calls, messages and gifts from friends and loved ones and organizations, I am actually 28 years healthier and wealthier today.  Today is the best day to share with you , my ice breaker - an introductory Toastmaster speech I delivered on the 11th December,2014.
Please enjoy it, comments and feed backs are welcome!

IT BEGAN IN IBADAN!

ICE BREAKER : IT BEGAN IN IBADAN by TM Emmanuel Ayeni, Speech project presented at TM Merit,Ikeja.

IBADAN is the larget city in Nigeria, West Africa. Earl Nightingale was right when he said “Everything begins with an idea” but I must say for me everything began in the great city of Ibadan on the 29th of December more than 2 Decades ago. For amidst much anticipation and expectation, that Monday morning at Oluyoro Catholic Hospital, a young woman who had undergone over 18 hours of prolonged labour faced the possibility of a Caesarian section. However, thanks to prayers of friends and family members and God’s timely intervention-just at the nick of time, she put to bed a healthy, handsome bouncing baby boy and the joyful cries of anew born child filled the entire ward. So on that beautiful day, a great light shone over the city of Ibadan as I Emmanuel Oluwadunsin Ayeni was born into the large and lovely Ayeni Family at Yemetu Ibadan.
I AM the second born in a family of Six. And for me growing up was fun and lots of learning. After the creation of states in 1991,I left my Grandparents in Ibadan and joined my parents in Osogbo to continue my primary school education. So I lived and schooled in Osogbo with my parents and siblings before my University education. Many people have different opinions about life; some say life is a marketplace, some say life is a battle field while others think it’s a game, what do you think? I believe life is a precious gift from God, a great privilege and much more an exciting journey. This is the reason I have decided to live it to the fullest. My love for life and adventure is wrapped up in 4 keywords ; Books, Travel, People and most importantly God. I love Travel. St. Augustine said life is a bookhe who has not travelled has read but a page. “I have travelled far and wide” this reminds me of a speaker who once boasted before his audience “I have travelled to india, Italy, Oklahoma, Philadelphia, in fact, I have travelled far and wide!, so a young student stood up and said “Sir, You must really know Geography” “Yes!” the man answered “You see, Geography is a very beautiful country”. So having been to over 10 of the 36 states in Nigeria, including the FCT, and several other places on pages of magazines, books and internet, I can jokingly say I have travelled far and wide, and I hope to do more travels in the future. There are many reasons why I like travelling, Some are; the sense of adventure, the opportunity to meet people of varying cultures and try new dishes-I love good food. Travelling has been said to make people natural story tellers and since I like to write,a sage once said Travelling is an aphrodisiac of writing. In order to see more of the world, I am making plans with friends to travel more in the coming year by God's grace.
My love for books and and writing began when my Mum taught me to read. First I learnt to read the brown, old Yoruba Bible in our room and then to devouring a couple of English story books I could find around. My interest in writing led me into the art of diary keeping , which has today grown into my many daily inspirational articles on my blog, with over 10 published in the Saturday Punch Newspaper couple of years ago. I kept diaries at different parts of my life, Keeping a journal helps me reflect and at times relive some other wonderful memories. I believe it helps us engage the 4 human endowments according to Stephen Covey; Self Awareness, Conscience, Independent Will and Creative Imagination. This art of keeping a diary has helped my writing skills and has been instrumental to my journey as an inspirational blogger and hopefully, very soon a best-selling author and renown speaker. Many of the diaries I kept got lost, some I kept and a few got me into trouble. I remember an instance when my diary brought me into trouble. I always wanted to learn swimming especially after a wonderful time with cousins at Lagos country club swimming pool during an holiday. It was a nice experience, so I got back to osogbo as a secondary school student and developed an habit of going with some friends to the Osun River to swim after school hours. On one of these occasions I met a boy called Shina who advised me to go to a deeper extension of the river – Elewure river, He recounted how many students have drowned there but that it was a perfect place to learn. I got back home and recorded my experience in my little diary , planning when I was going to go to the new stream to swim. Unknown to me my parents had been warned strongly in church by a strong spiritual warning- a prophecy about a kid in the house undertaking some risky ventures, we all wondered who that could be, until my diary was found and my escapades read by my mum, It’s needless to say what happened next, but that was the last time I went to the river, Today I I know there are many beautiful pools I continue to practice in.
My love for people is reflected in my desire to always meet new people and to help people solve their problems. I believe in our society today Engineers are great problem solvers and solution providers, So my study of Electrical and elwctron Engineering has set me on the right paths to help my world continue to develop and implement better ways of getting things done and achieving desired results. Overtime I have come to discover that Business is about filling people’s needs , So I have decided to continue to be in business,Hence, my desire to build my own business organization. I believe life is a journey and we continuoslylive and evolve through life. My life’s goal and mission is to inspire lives and organizations to greatness .I want to help create a world of solutions by expressing God’s glory in me and I want to equally help others do the same. In my life time id esire to be an accomplished Electrical Engineer, a responsible family man, a transformational leader and a best selling Author of well over 70 books. I desire to build and develop Emmandus Networks by God’s grace into a global profitable Corporation. Many decades from now when I am off this planet, after I am old and gone, I want my condolence register to reflect vital values I hold dear like Greatness, Integrity, Faith and Interdepence. I hope that some day at my funeral, my wife, children, grand children, old colleagues, employees, friends and acquaitnaceswill say comments like ; "My Father was a great man; Grandpa was a great treasure in Godliness and Diligence.Emmanuel helped us connect between our hopes, ideas ,dreams and our desired results. You inspired and touched lives around the world, you built businesses, and raised leaders. Emmanuel Oluwadunsin AYENI has lived life to the fullest. He was God’s ambassador on earth.

THANK YOU!

A CALL TO ACTION AND A PRAYER FOR NIGERIA

DAY 19 of 30

NATIONAL ANTHEM (Arise, O Compatriots)
Arise, O compatriots, Nigeria’s call obey
To serve our fatherland
With love and strength and faith
The labor of our heroes past
Shall never be in vain
To serve with heart and might
One nation bound in freedom, peace and unity.

Oh God of creation, direct our noble cause;
Guide our leaders right;
Help our Youth the truth to know
In love and honesty to grow
And living just and true
Great lofty heights attain
To build a nation where peace and justice shall reign.

Today while attending our business opportunity meeting with a couple of friends, I began to reflect on the
prayer which we usually have at the opening and beginning of every meeting, we always sing the second stanza of the National Anthem of our great country (The Federal Republic of Nigeria),My patriotic thoughts have prompted my post for today.

From my thoughts and reflection on the national anthem which was adopted in 1978,there are many lessons to be learnt, but i will mention a few.The first stanza is a call to action while the second stanza is a powerful prayer for any country that would be great and flourish. I personally believe in the greatness of Nigeria.

I learnt in this anthem that the call to action came before the prayer. The call to action is a call to responsibility and to show personal leadership that will lead to our greater good as a country. This informs that when we do what is in our own power to do as individuals and as a nation, God will always fulfill His own part.

We cannot put the cart before the horse. You need to do your own part, we all need to contribute our own quota of work and value for the greatness of our beloved countries and for the greater good of entire mankind.

God bless Nigeria (and the world at large)!

DEMOCRACY DAY WISHES FOR NIGERIA

It's a great day !

It is the Democracy day in Nigeria. In the light of the recent occurrences, I do not see it as a day to roll-out the drums and celebrate. While it's good to stay positive and grateful,I believe it's a perfect time to realize the objective of rescuing the Chibok girls. These were the girls kidnapped by some terrorist sect weeks ago. The #BringBackourgirls campaign is no more news. I am personally supporting the campaign on my twitter handle - @emmandus.

However, I still want to wish every Nigerian a happy Democracy day. I wish every Nigerian hope for the present time and the future. I wish the parents of the Chibok girls more strength in trying times like these.(How can the mothers of the Chibok girls be happy?)
I wish our Leaders wisdom and the courage to the right thing....

I wish every ill-meaning person a change of heart or perhaps a paradigm shift....

My words are few...

I wish us all....HOPE

GOD Bless Nigeria,
#GODSaveOurGirls

WHOSE BLOG IS IT ANYWAY?

I pop a question....
This is my blogging space but much more I think it is yours. Why do I say that? Well, because I am here to serve you with the latest tips that will help you live a great life a step at a time. You are my highly esteemed reader and because of that, the blog is yours.
Well, I also feel it is mine too because I will also share some real life experiences, especially personal ones from which I have drawn a bit of lesson. For instance I have decided to share my blogging journey and a few of my other walks that might perhaps interest a few readers.
Wait a minute, what if I just write and nobody reads; I'll just sit here in a room in Lagos or write an article in the regular Lagos traffic-jam, like I am doing now (and I get to do that a lot these days) I mean writing or finishing my articles while commuting, thanks to the power of mobile- I presently use my handy functional blackberry curve though I still remain an android lover. So, back to the point, if I write and nobody reads, then to me no work has been done!
So I think the blog is yours or perhaps mine….so what do you think???
Please use the social media buttons below to share with friends. I always appreciate and enjoy your feedback.

WRITING FOR MY NICHE ; AFRICA IN RETROSPECT

It was a wonderful Tuesday morning- a great day! I knew it and I was so sure that I stepped out to write an article about it. It’s a wonderful Tuesday morning- Terrific Tuesday! Not only was I off work, at my ‘new’ job -with a much different shift schedule, rather, it was a Terrific Tuesday morning- a rainy day!

So I sat at the sofa overlooking the garden from a sliding door and started on an entirely new mission; to churn out 100 quality articles for my blog.

Writing an article for my blog is a very important thing to me. A vital aspect off my life it has come to be, writing to me is a medium of expression, a platform to share my message, a channel to reach out to my clan. With a piece of article I reach out to many, numbers and distance notwithstanding even without paying attention to the borders or barriers of language and culture. Thank God for Technology.
I might not write on the everyday political ills or the disasters and wars in the Middle East. I believe the news does much justice to that and sometimes blows out much out of proportion, for instance talk about the case of western media painting the whole Africa as a poverty-ridden continent and leaving out transformational leadership exhibited in a place like Lagos Nigeria, and the groundbreaking educational project like ‘Opon-Imo ‘ Tablets for Schools’ first rolled out in Osun state Or how can we forget what transformations are taking place in countries like Ghana compared to what they used to be over the years. Yet the spotlight of western media on Africa has not changed much, if at all!
No hard feelings but I believe Africa lies amidst so much wealth her past woes or present challenges notwithstanding. I am so sure it’s just a matter of time till the Generation Y, show great leadership as so many of them have started doing, I believe Africa isn’t where it used to be on the USAID, UN or WHO development indices - thanks to aids and policies bothering around that but so much more it owes it more to the leverage of transformational leadership finding their foot holds in some countries or nations around that.
So rather than dwell so much on the news, I dwell so much on Change. The positive change we all believe in and hope to see, not only in Nigeria or Africa, but in the world at large. I advocate personal change because I believe that is the birth place of all other societal changes. Then I move on to the need for Organizational change and development because that is like a cantilever that touches all lives together and can break transnational bonds. This approach to change is what I believe imbibes the present and upcoming generation –Generation Y with the necessary values necessary for unleashing personal greatness and birthing global change. This is the fulcrum that can lift the world.
So in revealing my mission of 100 articles in 100 days or less. I will solely write around my niche by that I mean all that relates to National and Global Change. I will keep to my assignment to inspire greatness and the world’s best ideas in business, leadership and Life. I am a student of this school of change rather than a master of it, so I as well share all that I learn by personal experience, through interactions with the masters of the field and above all from major intercourse with great minds from books. Hence my reasons for some book reviews on my blog.

Doing book reviews on my blog for me is a very wonderful thing. I have always had a passion for books and I always believe I will author so many of them. Once while reviewing a book , I remembered a group conversation I had with couple of friends in a course mate’s room while at the University. One of us had tried to speculate what he sees every one doing in the future and he looked at me and said with certainty, above all possible things “You will be doing book reviews” . He’s way too right! I went on to do some book reviews on my blog which I had started back in school then and they have nice exposures, I mean book reviews rank among the popular posts on my blog today. A book review makes you an active reader. You read with a view to sharing at some points with the cap of a critic and an analyst on. It’s a step in progress and I currently look to how to better my best at it.

Finally I have come to the end of what was supposed to be a 750 word article! Considering the fact I don’t do that! I always think how many Nigerian wants to read a piece more than a 350 word article? And I just wrote over 750 words without breaking a sweat!

Poetic: Waiting For My Love

ICE Breaker

It's so nice to be back again...Yeah I believe I have broken a few bloggers code for some weeks now by creating much space... but I can always say my heart still goes out to my numerous readers around the world and our growing viewers on my youtube channel wwww.youtube.com/emmandus and now I can say I am on an unending journey to keep you inspired on our road to greatness by God's special grace.

Today's piece a poem I composed for my sweet heart some months ago and I crave her indulgence to share it with you all! I love you all!

Waiting For My Love

She crossed the hills

She crossed the mountains

She flew over the blue skies&balmy weather

My Love has journeyed far away

:(

She passed through lands

She passed through fields

She flew over huts and hamlets

My Love's gone to heed the Nation's call

The rain beats my dark skin

I cast my gaze on the lonely tracks

Looking out for her beautiful smile

Beyond the endless roads

Let the tweeting birds

Take my lovely notes

And sing a beautiful song to my only Queen

Till our eyes are four
