WE HAVE MOVED ON FROM HERE: LESSONS IN POSITIVE CHANGE

1. Moving on means different things to different people: I always believe we all view life through a prism and when we look at the same thing we can view them from different perspectives, hence the difference in conclusions drawn. With this in mind, we understand that moving on will always mean different things to different people; to someone it might mean moving to another career path, a new income bracket while to some other people it might mean a geographical relocation or change in location. However, for the sake of our discussion, we will look at ‘Moving on’ from the general context of positive change of level or position as the case may be.

2. People move on in life: A Popular Yoruba Proverb says “20 children cannot play for 20 years” ( Yoruba is the language of the Yoruba tribe in Western Nigeria). No matter the level of familiarity, or the closeness you have had with people, no matter where we are now, no matter the moments we have shared , People move on in life and the earlier we learn to understand that, the easier and better for us in business, career or our relationships.

3. Problems happen when people fail to move on: As necessary and evident as it is that people move on in life, many still fail to understand or see the need to move. These set of people refuse to see the future, neither do they plan for it, they fall in love with the status quo and never move or make the switch. People who do this are lost in the present and as such they are caught unawares.

4. Know when to move: “Life is in stages; men in sizes” Timing is so essential to all things in life. There is time for us to make the new career change or to stay glue to the system and the game plan. Whether it's in career, business or in a relationship, just as we need to know when to stay we should know the time to leave all behind and move on.

5. Creating a flight plan or a fight plan : Since Moving on becomes a candidly true fact at one point or the other in our lives, then, having a plan is therefore strategic to the success of the change. A strategy is clear action plan on the next move or line of action; it is our clear map on the journey at hand. So it is only wise to embark on a journey with a detailed map, as only a fool embarks on a journey without a map or clear directions. While moving on you need to know when you are fighting and when you need to make a flight. Whatever you plan to do, you need a plan to do that!

Till next time, Move into greatness!

WE HAVE MOVED ON FROM HERE: PRELUDE

It was a rainy Saturday morning. I got out of bed after a wonderful night rest, said my prayers, and made a trip to the bathroom and I moved on to the lounge to see what else is wrong with the world. I had enough of the Pakistani election violence and the unrest in Syria so I flipped through my favourite channels- till at last I got to Bloomberg and I was hooked for a while on two series of Bloomberg Game changers…And realising how hungry I was I quickly reached for breakfast- a lovely one. Sitting behind the laptop at a good distance from the tube. I was soon amazed by how time flew and I quickly dashed out of the house and embarked on a trip to Nigeria’s Silicon Valley to tick off my schedule for the day.

I quickly set about my appointments for the day, utilizing the time left by the rain that held me home bound for most part of the day and finally I decided to relax in the ambience of a commodious fast food shop.

It took no time to find me a nice spot-from where I could have for myself a good view of all that enters and leaves... So I was chilling…/

I am sure many people going in and out must have actually wondered at this ‘lost guy’ with a book opened in front of him and a half filled bottle of drink by the side, sitting in there for minutes…but as I sat in that ‘perfect corner’ in a pensive mood, I had like a billion thoughts crossing my mind, I took another glance at the busy street outside the building and on a closed door, on the top of a tall office building I noticed a sign showing ‘ WE HAVE MOVED ON FROM HERE’ and the idea for this article struck me.. I suddenly saw more to that line I found some life lessons hiding behind the words and I know that I really have to write this…

Please, Join me as I continue this tomorrow.

Your great Friend,

Emmanuel Ayeni

CELEBRATING DADS: WHO IS YOUR FATHER?

Many years ago, on a sunny afternoon on a construction site in Lagos Nigeria, some group of men were having a discussion bordering on Fatherhood, after many contributions from different persons, an elderly man the oldest Engineer, looked straight and said “see… you cannot completely understand the love and joy of a Father until you become one”, the truths in those words filtered into me and I have not stopped pondering on it for many years.

While not many of us might be Fathers yet, I make bold to say that a good number of us have at one way or the other if not presently, enjoyed the Love of having a Father, i.e. the joy of being a daughter or a son. So I write this piece not as a Father, but as one who has and still experiences the love and joy of having a Father-if you also do; cherish it while it lasts and if you don’t, relish the memories or simply read on…

Speaking from Africa where I currently live, I can say form an African background, I understand children find it easier to appreciate and celebrate Mothers (still in my opinion anyways) more than Fathers- who mostly are our unsung heroes. I do not make light of the need to appreciate and celebrate our mothers, but I believe we need to equally celebrate our Mothers and Fathers.

I have a Father and he is my hero…and I appreciate and celebrate him – and off course all Fathers today and always…

Permit me to reminisce here…today I remember my Dad not only the Phone conversation of yesterday or our last chat couple of weeks ago…no beyond that…I remember the young graduate shoe shop owner who put me on his shoulder almost every afternoon and took me to watch at the famous Lekan Salami Stadium or Adamasingba in Ibadan to watch those matches of ICC, shooting stars and also made sure I met the legendary footballer Muda Lawal after one of those matches..

I remember the man who took me on his big bicycle and took me on a ride almost every evening after leaving the office…ahah! The man who showed and taught me the importance of DIY(Do-It-Yourself) and having a toolbox at home…The man who taught us all the importance of having a skill… and much more wonderful memories...I love you Dad! God bless you and all Fathers.

We all can relate to some personal and wonderful memories we hold dear about our Dads (I invite you to share with us at comments section at the end of the post) off course it doesn’t leave out the fact that we must have had those ‘fights’ with our Dads, some fights which usually are in our best interests while even at times too its human for them to make mistakes.

And for those who have no Fathers anymore, I say hold on to those precious memories and for those who have none, I will say look up to the Father of all fathers- The Almighty God is your Father!

They are the centroid and pillar of every house, the king and often unsung heroes in every home. They are always the human hub through whom we are all connected…They give us a sense of identity, They inspire us, discipline us when needed and give us the shoulders to cry on…they challenge us to go farther than we usually thought possible.. They are our Fathers!

Lots of Love to all the worlds’ Dads, you are the best!

Happy Fathers' day!

Daily Motivation : A quote on Transformation

When the Lord is ready to transform you, He begins to feed you with the necessary information
- Emmanuel Ayeni

Every change in level or altitude is first preceded by a change in attitude. Understanding of difference is always the basis for every major change.

A change from poverty to wealth, from lack to plenty, from low output to productivity and from darkness into light. When God wants to change your level or transform you into a new man, he does it from the inside out by giving you access to the right and relevant information necessary for that change.

When he wants to save you from sin He sends to you His messenger of salvation and the gospel, when he wants to change your attitude to time he gives you access to facts on punctuality, to wake up the entrepreneur in you he shows you a need and the ideas on filling the need. When your information base changes many things will change about you.

Till tomorrow, go and achieve greatness!

Emmanuel Ayeni
