I speed read through the entire PMBOK 7 during the final parts of my preparation for the PMP certification examination, it embodies the general knowledgebase of the PMI on Projects terminologies and a host of many other Process flows, leadership and management models on the 3 major domains as regards ; People, Process and Business Environment.
It is a major tool for navigating value creation and service delivery. I had a great time highlighting different key areas of the about 274-page text for future review.
While I found the book a great read, success in the PMP examination is not solely based on theoretically reading or memorizing a particular text but rather engaging with the material, understanding and developing the Project Management Professional [PMP] Mindset. This will make you be able to quickly make decisions based on the PMI Knowledge Areas , Processes with good grasp of different Project methodologies, like waterfall, agile, or hybrid and the ability to tailor them for timely value delivery in a dynamic, volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous project terrain.
Reading the text does not necessarily replace the need for reading other texts as the book does not include the scenario- based exercises neither is majorly exam-centric.
Interestingly, the PMBOK 7 has been updated in the newly released (PMBOK8) which builds on the previous edition while integrating new frameworks around Artificial Intelligence into it, this makes it even more interesting to look into even as the entire PMP examination curriculum gets updated as well.
I look forward to do a detailed review of the PMBOK8 soon for everyone in the project economy and most especially for those who will be taking the exam with the new curriculum change.
All the best,
