HOLD ON! A STORY

28 OF 30

HOLD ON! A STORY

"When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you till it seems you could not hold on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn."
-- Harriet Beecher Stowe, author

One major reasons why people do not succeed, is giving up not only on their way to success but also giving up too soon. I will illustrate this with a story.

Long ago, there lived in a small village an old carpenter called Makanjuola (Makanjuola means never be hasty or in a deadly rush to get wealthy) he and the wife were so poor they could not afford three square meals but he was known for being truthful.
A man of high integrity he continued to work hard to cater for his beautiful wife and their son whom they named Iforiti (Iforiti means endurance) for so many years.

One afternoon the young son told his Father, "Dad, I will love to go to the big city and acquire skills for which I can make a living and find my path" The Dad agreed and off he went leaving his Mum with tears in her eyes.

In their son's absence, the couple continued to live and work hard despite their poor conditions. They were poor for many years expecting the return of their son, who never came back.
They grew old and lived in their old hut for so many years.

One fateful night the old man was called upon by the Village's chief for his assistance, he was to help a stranger who has lost his way pass the night till the next day when he was going to retrace his path.

So they went off to Makanjuola's house.

on getting home the couple apologized for not serving dinner as they had no food. The stranger was kind enough, so he opened his box which they found was full of money and he gave them some cash to buy some food, the stranger bid them goodnight after the dinner and went to bed.

At midnight the wife woke up the husband and they spoke in very low tones. " My husband if we do not get rich tonight, it might as well be the end for us ever" "how do you mean? he asked. The wife explained their need to kill the stranger so they could have all the money in the box.

So they went ahead and killed him and kept the money.

When the chief came for the stranger in the morning they lied to him that the stranger had run away.

The chief was surprised and told the couple the stranger's story and his name was Iforiti. When Makanjuola heard this he fell to the ground and died. When the wife also realized they killed their son,.she screamed, confessed and died.

Like iforiti- Endurance is a virtue needed in holding on.

Keep holding to GREATNESS!

#SPIRITUALITY: The Way of Love

1 Corinthians 13 The Message (MSG)

The Way of Love
13 If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate.

2 If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, “Jump,” and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing.

3-7 If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.

Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.
8-10 Love never dies. Inspired speech will be over some day; praying in tongues will end; understanding will reach its limit. We know only a portion of the truth, and what we say about God is always incomplete. But when the Complete arrives, our incompletes will be canceled.

11 When I was an infant at my mother’s breast, I gurgled and cooed like any infant. When I grew up, I left those infant ways for good.

12 We don’t yet see things clearly. We’re squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won’t be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We’ll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us!

13 But for right now, until that completeness, we have three things to do to lead us toward that consummation: Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love.

ROMANCE 101: 3 THINGS EVERY GIRL WANTS IN EVERY RELATIONSHIP

It's a great day! Today I chose to break the ice, and write on the subject of relationship- romance especially.
Sitting with my special one in a cool eatery somewhere in western Nigeria, i decided to this post with her assistance.
So what does every girl want in a guy in a positive relationship.

1. Every girl wants committment.Any lady wants to be in a relationship where the other party is committed and it can be seen, felt and heard. She wants to be able to tell if you are and will always be there when it really matters.

2.Love and Affection: Nothing touches the heart of a lady like the unalloyed show of affection. There are no two ways about it. You see, relationships are like flowers that need to be tended to; love and affection are the main nutrients on which they thrive.

3.Communication: This is the life line of every relationship....i got to fly now!

MENTORSHIP DIARY 1: I GOT THE SCHOLARSHIP!

DAY 25 OF 30

In an earlier post tagged Mentorship 101, while I shared briefly on the need and value of mentorship, I also hinted on the fact that I was applying to a special mentorship session with my mentor alongside over 200 people from all walks of life. The good news I have however not shared is that I made it into the class and as a matter of fact the session with a targeted 200 participants eventually had over 600 people registering.

While I have not clearly revealed really anything about my mentor on this blog- i just didnt think it necessary initially but i might in the long run, I can provide answers when asked or you might as well read the hand writings on the wall...i will go on in my next post on my different mentors and my reaching out for a mentor and what scholarship I am talking about. If you would like to take a quick peep you can see my tweets under the harshtag #MentorshipWAA #TEAM3 . Remember my twitter handle again is @emmandus .

Be guided to greatness,

THE FIVE CATEGORIES OF PEOPLE

DAY 24 of 30

THE FIVE CATEGORIES OF PEOPLE

I love people. I love meeting people and thus I am in the business of meeting and helping people this is what I do for most part of my time and I believe I am on a journey to a point where I can do this on my own full time and of my own volition . I get a lot of fulfillment from being a part of the solution process to a problem, after all it’s important to the work of an Engineer and a life coach and the vision of Network Marketing especially on the Platform of Avenues to Wealth continues to give me that opportunity while offering personal development, financial rewards and lot more benefits in the process.
Earlier in the day while I set about a few personal tasks, I began to reflect on the nature of people, I understand there are different types of people regardless of race, sex or other criteria, however I believe people we come will always be in 5 major categories as I shared with a friend over lunch.

1. People who are confused:
The world is a big place and things happen so fast that it is not impossible to find people who are really confused at the way things look or things are, this people for instance may not know where they are or perhaps where they are going too.
2. People who are Lost:
People who are lost obviously set out for a certain destination but they are not where they would love to be and really they usually do not know where they are they are off course and will always need someone who can help them retrace their steps or a compass to set them back on the right path,
3. People who are Not Sure: These are people who are not certain. They are might not be lost or confused at times they know but they are not just sure. They might not be sure about their core-values they might not be sure about their position but they will always deal with half knowledge and very truly a 'little knowledge is a dangerous’

4. People who are very sure: This people are sure. There is no mincing words they are very sure. These categories of people know where they are going and they know where they are coming from. These are people you naturally want to walk with. They know where they are going and sure enough to take people along with.Because of this level of clarity they usually have the capacity to show leadership and engender positive change.

5. The followers :
This is a broad category which will usually consist of people from any of the previous categories. These people will usually follow anyone and go anywhere. The main nature or characters of these people affect the quality of decisions they make in following or making decisions. If they are sure, they usually chart the course ,lead or be very good followers and if they are in the other categories they make decisions based on that.

Go achieve greatness!

The Road Not Taken

DAY 23 of 30

In this post I share a lovely poem by Robert Frost. This poem deserves being reflected on, I believe this will be a perfect prequel to tomorrow's post.

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.”

Robert Frost

TAKE BACK YOUR POWER

DAY 22 of 30

TAKE BACK YOUR POWER

In my meditations on the subject of greatness, I ponder on how and why people live below their true calling, purpose and personal greatness.

Peak performance expert Anthony Robbins noted Personal power as one of the vital keys to success in any endeavour.
I thought so much about the concept of people giving away their power as being responsible for poor performance, in fact
i thought so much about it and I even see many occasions in which I have been guilty of this as well as some present occasions in which I am still guilty of( Yes! I believe the school of thought that says we all are a work in progress.
However I believe we can take back our power through some quick ways once we know how we give our power away.

1. Take back your Power form Lateness:Be Punctual! Have you ever felt bad when you were late for an event or an occasion?
This feeling shows the feeling that comes from giving away your Power to lateness. You start taking back your power when you chose to
be early for every event or any appointment.

2. Take back your power from procrastination: I recently undertook a particular project, I had a window of months before this
but by failing to focus on the paradigms of what was urgent and important, I refused to prioritize and then I started off to
end of the project with limited spaces.I faced the consequence of not being able to perform at the very best possible peak I knew i could
I learnt form the experience that procrastination is not only a thief of time but rather a thief of personal power, energy, efforts and even
in some cases a few hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
When you allow your power be taken away by procrastination or any vices, you debar yourself from best possible performance.

3.Make the right Decision: Do the right thing! A famous sage quotes the need to stand for what is right, even if it means standing alone.
You give away your power when you choose to do the wrong thing, because everyone is doing it.
There is always a strong positive feeling you get when you have done the right thing no matter what! I like to call it the “I-am-scored-feelings”
Take back your power, do what you have to do when you need to do it.

4.Tell her you Love her!: On a radio programme I listened to couple of years ago, I learnt that so many people had a special person in their lives they always wished they had told something wonderful like 'thank you' 'I am sorry' or 'I love you!' When we fail to nurture and treasure the relationships that are so dear to us, we give our powers away unwillingly and without the joy it brings to operate in personal power. I challenge you to take back your power from fear. Reflect and take action, pick up the phone, schedule the meeting and nurture the positive relationships in your life.

5.Take Responsibility: We give away our powers when we refuse to follow up motivation with the necessary action it usually requires.Excuses take away our powers, the true test of maturity is when we own up to our weaknesses and mistakes by taking responsibilities for them and addressing them. Responsibility is an important measure of 'leadership-content' and when we show personal leadership by taking responsibility, we will be in a good position to lead others. This is when we will understand what it means to take back our powers and to reinvest it in others.

Not only is it a "Long walk to Freedom" like Mandela opined in his popular book title but it is also a long walk to greatness, but if we take back our power and leverage on positive relationships like mentorship, friendship and fellowship, the long walk
can become an interesting stroll because we have enough power to sustain ourselves and others all through the way.

AFFIRMATIONS

Today, I take back my power!
I aspire and become all that God has created me to become!
I take responsibility for my life and actions
I dwell in the realm of abounding and unlimited possibilities
I am like a far-reaching beam reaching others in amazing positive ways
I am living life to the fullest as an expression of God's goodness and greatness
