CELEBRATING DADS: WHO IS YOUR FATHER?

Many years ago, on a sunny afternoon on a construction site in Lagos Nigeria, some group of men were having a discussion bordering on Fatherhood, after many contributions from different persons, an elderly man the oldest Engineer, looked straight and said “see… you cannot completely understand the love and joy of a Father until you become one”, the truths in those words filtered into me and I have not stopped pondering on it for many years.

While not many of us might be Fathers yet, I make bold to say that a good number of us have at one way or the other if not presently, enjoyed the Love of having a Father, i.e. the joy of being a daughter or a son. So I write this piece not as a Father, but as one who has and still experiences the love and joy of having a Father-if you also do; cherish it while it lasts and if you don’t, relish the memories or simply read on…

Speaking from Africa where I currently live, I can say form an African background, I understand children find it easier to appreciate and celebrate Mothers (still in my opinion anyways) more than Fathers- who mostly are our unsung heroes. I do not make light of the need to appreciate and celebrate our mothers, but I believe we need to equally celebrate our Mothers and Fathers.

I have a Father and he is my hero…and I appreciate and celebrate him – and off course all Fathers today and always…

Permit me to reminisce here…today I remember my Dad not only the Phone conversation of yesterday or our last chat couple of weeks ago…no beyond that…I remember the young graduate shoe shop owner who put me on his shoulder almost every afternoon and took me to watch at the famous Lekan Salami Stadium or Adamasingba in Ibadan to watch those matches of ICC, shooting stars and also made sure I met the legendary footballer Muda Lawal after one of those matches..

I remember the man who took me on his big bicycle and took me on a ride almost every evening after leaving the office…ahah! The man who showed and taught me the importance of DIY(Do-It-Yourself) and having a toolbox at home…The man who taught us all the importance of having a skill… and much more wonderful memories...I love you Dad! God bless you and all Fathers.

We all can relate to some personal and wonderful memories we hold dear about our Dads (I invite you to share with us at comments section at the end of the post) off course it doesn’t leave out the fact that we must have had those ‘fights’ with our Dads, some fights which usually are in our best interests while even at times too its human for them to make mistakes.

And for those who have no Fathers anymore, I say hold on to those precious memories and for those who have none, I will say look up to the Father of all fathers- The Almighty God is your Father!

They are the centroid and pillar of every house, the king and often unsung heroes in every home. They are always the human hub through whom we are all connected…They give us a sense of identity, They inspire us, discipline us when needed and give us the shoulders to cry on…they challenge us to go farther than we usually thought possible.. They are our Fathers!

Lots of Love to all the worlds’ Dads, you are the best!

Happy Fathers' day!

Daily Motivation : A quote on Transformation

When the Lord is ready to transform you, He begins to feed you with the necessary information
- Emmanuel Ayeni

Every change in level or altitude is first preceded by a change in attitude. Understanding of difference is always the basis for every major change.

A change from poverty to wealth, from lack to plenty, from low output to productivity and from darkness into light. When God wants to change your level or transform you into a new man, he does it from the inside out by giving you access to the right and relevant information necessary for that change.

When he wants to save you from sin He sends to you His messenger of salvation and the gospel, when he wants to change your attitude to time he gives you access to facts on punctuality, to wake up the entrepreneur in you he shows you a need and the ideas on filling the need. When your information base changes many things will change about you.

Till tomorrow, go and achieve greatness!

OUR DEEPEST FEAR

It's a great day. It pleasure me always to bring something inspiring to the table each time. This motivational poem by Marianne Williamson is one that I always find so inspiring . Please Enjoy it till you read from me.. Cheers!

Our Deepest Fear

B

y Marianne Williamson

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness

That most frightens us.

We ask ourselves

Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God.

Your playing small

Does not serve the world.

There's nothing enlightened about shrinking

So that other people won't feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine,

As children do.

We were born to make manifest

The glory of God that is within us.

It's not just in some of us;

It's in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine,

We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

As we're liberated from our own fear,

Our presence automatically liberates others.

Note: This inspiring quote on our deepest fear is taken from Marianne Williamson's inspiring book A Return to Love. Though often quoted as part of Nelson Mandela's moving inaugural speech, "Our Deepest Fear" does not appear in the speech. Marianne Williamson herself has commented on this mistaken attribution.

THE MAKING OF A SUPER STAR

Have you ever wondered what it takes to be a star? Perhaps a thousand thoughts must have crossed your mind on stars and how they got to stardom. Well, little will you know that most times, it doesn’t take much struggles to become one, and neither does it cost a lot of fortune as well.

In fact, if you care to know, most stars and celebrities you can talk about or name were not always the most brilliant guys as it were, most never made the top of the class, but what made them stand out? What has made names like Bill Gates, Tiger Woods, Steven Spielberg, Ben Carson, Nelson Mandela, Wole Soyinka, Thomas Alva Edison, Michael Jackson etc. to ring bells each time they are mentioned? What has distinguished them from other people in their race, location or respective fields?

I hope not to only show you ample hints, into the lives of stars, but to also share enough to launch you forward on your road to stardom. Enjoy!

Key Factors that make Stars

1.Confidence:The most striking virtue you will ever notice in the life of any famous character or celebrity is a strong sense of confidence. Figuratively, a star is meant to shine in the sky, and that is a great height above the ground. So definitely, to go as far as shining above the majority, you need a strong level of confidence. Stars were not born with it, they have passed through their low times ,but they have learnt to build their confidence level to a very high point, where they can stand and give their best to those around them. Remember, If you do not believe in yourself, then, who will?

2. Character: Real stars are men and women of noble characters, they are not always ‘perfect’ people but they are set of individuals who have looked beyond the barrier of self-centeredness to how they can harmoniously exist with others in their immediate environment. You need to periodically review your character, understand your temperament with its strong points and weak points and how you can relate with and coexist with other people. Super achievers understand the value of great character strength and they develop it. They pay attention to developing important characters like consistency, diligence and hard work which drive them towards their goals. You too can!

3.Relationship: ” Life is all about relationship”. The saying is true ,stars believe exactly that and live around it. Every celebrity understand the value and power of relationship. I have tried to examine this from different perspective under an acronym R.E.L.A.T.I.O.N.S.H.I.P.. as it is treated here;

R-Real people: We meet real people every day and we interact with them at work, in the marketplace, treasure your relationship with everyday people.

E-Employer/ Employee: This relationship between employee or employer as the case may be puts food on our tables, it defines the level of productivity or result we achieve in life and career.

L-Lovers: The romantic kind of relationship. This is another important level of relationship among other types of relationship. The love life or relationship between a lady & her lover is an important one…A star must be able to handle this.

A-Associates: This is another level of relationship which could exist in a professional or work environment. A good understanding in handling this level of relationship is essential for maximum productivity.

T: Teachers/tutors (or Mentor) : Whether you are a student or in business, your relationship with those who have been in your field before you cannot be quantified, If this is well nurtured it can be a wellspring of wisdom and a ladder for greater accomplishments.

I-Intellectuals: They are always around us. No man is a paragon of all knowledge. Identify and appreciate them

O Opinion makers: Opinion is free and every man is entitled to his, you must be able to relate to people who make and share opinions either by compliments or as criticisms it comes a lot with being a star…

N Negative People : no matter what you say or do, there are people who just wouldn’t see the rainbow nor the pot of gold at the end of it…so handle that!

S: Spirituality: Spiritual people.. Your relationship with these people matter… no matter your religion there are spiritual people and your interaction with them opens your mind more to spiritual truths. After all, you are first of all a spiritual being..

High Profile People: These are the decision makers…You have decided to become a star, so you must be rewired to relate with people at this level. Some of this people will be your proverbial gatekeepers!

I: International people: I will say it again “ You were meant to be a global brand never die with local content” .You must be able to relate with harmony with people of varying languages or culture…Remember the commercial “..the world is your stage” as a star!

P:Positive minded people, we all need them in our team-the optimistic dudes who believe in the dreams and opportunities ahead High Performers understand the principle of effective connection and active networking and they utilize it. Never forget ,in life you need somebody, who knows Somebody that needs what you have and has what you ,so be more positive and hospitable. Network and Connect with people every day and every time.

4.Opportunity:Stars always have the exceptional abilities to spot and recognize opportunities and when they see none they create them. You too can look around, go online, the opportunities are there and even within you. Spot them and utilize them.

5.Dreams: Stars are great dreamers, they dream great dreams . Simply put a dream is a conception of what you desire , a future reality .Stars have clearly set goals , they dream and are obsessed by their dreams. They take action and follow their dreams. Conceive a dream today, if you don’t have one, believe it, visualise it, pray about it. You must love your dreams so much and never be afraid to live it out daily. Follow your dreams!

6. Learning : “

stay hungry;stay foolish
” _Steve Jobs. Those were the last lines of Steve Job’s popular Stanford commencement speech. Star performers are not necessarily always the wisest but they one thing in common- they usually pay attention to learning and are always hungry for knowledge. These people are usually committed to their chosen field as much as they might know a bit of everything, they usually know much more about one definite area. I challenge you today to read a book, learn a new language, skill expand your information or knowledge base and grow your mind! Remember ‘information will always make the difference, wherever an observation is made’

7. God: Every super star or high performer have always enjoyed the backing of a supernatural being, unsurpassable in intellect and wisdom. He is God- the almighty; too big to be defined in this little article, He makes all things. He made the small stars and the super star making them to differ in their shining strengths and the limits to which they shine. If you look well, you will see that every genuine star acknowledges a great God. IF you will be the super star that will shine forever you must acknowledge and partner with this great GOD! He made the stars and he can make YOU too!

About the Author

Index.

Introduction

The Introduction starts with a quote and a citation;

You may delay but time will not
”- Ben Franklin

According to an article in American Demographics (Jan,1999) consumers have come to view time as their most precious commodity. “To satisfy today’s consumer, you need to do business in a real-time world- one in which time and distance collapse, action and response are simultaneous, and customers demand instant gratification”. In Bob’s world “101 Way to Make Every Second Count shows you how to succeed in today’s competitive, fast-paced world by increasing your own personal productivity, so you can get more done in less time. 101 Ways… is organized into 10 quick-reading chapters. The first chapter presents proven time-saving strategies you can learn in less than 20 minutes to achieve an instant boost in personal productivity. Chapter 2 enables you to assess how important increasing personal productivity is to you…and whether you are willing to do what is necessary to achieve it. Chapters 3 through 10 present a wealth of tactics that can help you get more done in less time with less stress-with no sacrifice in the quality of the work.

Chapter 1

“I am always quarrelling with time! It is so short to do something, and so long to do nothing” – Queen Charlotte ,( Heir to the British throne 1796-1817)

The author gives quick tips like making to-do lists, prioritizing, removing distractions, applying the 80/20 rule and watching your energy levels among others

Chapter 2:

This chapter talks more about the motivation for increasing productivity and some guides on goals and causes/ways of avoiding job burnout.

Chapter3

Bob takes us into the ‘the power of 10% more’ .The magic here is not setting out trying to achieve a 100% improvement, but rather he shows us how to increase our productivity by 10% improvement in key areas that affect our efficiency ; like gaining 10% more energy, thinking 10% faster

Chapter 4

Talks about maximising time through the use of Time fillers, learning how to juggle projects and handle pressure.

Chapter 5

This is where we are shown on how to use the leverage of Technology to save us so much valuable time and increase our productivity .

Chapters 6 to 10 Treat the invaluable topics of Delegations and Outsourcing. Getting organised; Maximizing your personal energy and the important topic of Offloading & Priority Management

The book offers a myriad of ways to increase your personal productivity and save yourself from much stress either at work or even while working on personal goals or projects.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Amazon captured an interesting Biography of Bob and I am quoting that below:

"Robert W. Bly (River Vale, NJ) is a professional writer, speaker and marketing consultant with over 3 decades of experience in business-to-business, high-tech, and direct response marketing. He became a self-made multi-millionaire while still in his 30s.
