IT'S A GREAT DAY!





One day,I went to facilitate a technical training for one of the world's then top 2 vendors in Telecommunications industry, currently the world's number 1.

Huawei was taking on new Frontline Engineers into different departments in the Network Operations Centre (NOC) and I was to facilitate a session that pertained to certain core skills needed for this role.

This was 5 years ago and it was my very first.

I had been privileged to receive the nomination of my Manager and a wonderful brother, Ifeatu Ikedi - aka 'Energy'

Within the very short notice, I quickly created my slides with power point, then, with about 3 years technical experience as an Engineer under my belt and God's "Speaker's anointing oil" on my head 😉, I went on fearlessly.

I entered the training room in a high brow area of Victoria Island, precisely at Oriental Hotel, it was a room full of about 200 Engineers, there was so much energy in there, in short, we had an amazing, lively and engaging session.

Today, many of them have gone on to different roles within the organization and the industry.

While I trained for over over an hour, one message stood out, I started my session with a 1 minute charge "IT'S A GREAT DAY " ( I still do today) without delving so much into it, I moved on to technical details.

Now...my point is this, years after, whenever I come across many of the participants of that training they always remember to connect or remind me of that charge " It's a great day!"

This week believe, affirm and say to yourself every single day that "It's a great day!"

Any day that you are awake, is already a great day!

It's a great day, let me give you a sneak-peek  into what went down at Ronik Polytechnic last week where I was invited to speak at the National Youth Development Conference by YPLSTS.


It was my second time speaking at this Youth Development  Conference, I did a keynote there last year . However last week my presentation was a short but impactful one.

Master The Art Of Self Confidence... 1


Whether in business, career or in social circles, we all need to master the art of Self Confidence and eliminate all forms of fear from our lives.
While contributing to a discussion on handling stage fright as Speakers, I gave some great contributions I will like to share with you freely.
I see stage fright as normal. I have seen back stage videos of world-class Speakers get nervous and still pumped themselves up before the talk.
So personally to deal with stage fright or any form of fear as a Master of Ceremonies, Conference or Seminar Speaker these are some of the techniques I engage
1. I prepare-because Knowledge breeds confidence
2. I dress well, this boosts my confidence too.
3. I arrive on time to avoid any rush or undue pressure so as to have time to connect with people and my environment.
4. Throughout these, I put myself in a place of Personal Power and positive energy by speaking faith filled words or affirmations these are some
* I am one with God, God is in me and I am an expression of God's grace, glory and greatness
* I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (I can say this close to 100 times😀)
5. I visualise the Success of the event already and I practice deep-breathing.
I hope these self-confidence "mojo" helps someone on stage, before a presentation, behind the wheels or anywhere!

Once you’re able to master the skill of powerful communication, you’ll be living a life full of unlimited happiness. Imagine being able to express yourself openly and honestly to the degree in which others are influenced to do something because of what you have to say and HOW you say it.

Even if you are limited in education, experience or intelligence, being able to communicate effectively with others is the most powerful, un-limiting success tool you could ever have.

Nearly 99% of all of the difficulties between human beings, and within organizations are caused by breakdowns in the communication process. Either people do not say what they mean clearly enough, or other people do not receive the message that was sent in the form in which it was intended.

The good news is that effective communication is a learned skill.

THE 3 ELEMENTS OF DIRECT COMMUNICATION

According to Albert Mehrabian of UCLA, there are 3 elements in any direct, face-to-face communication. They are the elements of words, tone of voice, and body language.

The Elements of Words

 Words only account for 7 % of any message. For an effective communication to take place, of course, all three parts of the message must be congruent and consistent with each other. If there isn’t any congruency, the receiver will be confused and will have a tendency to accept the predominant form of communication rather than the literal meaning or words.
 Emphasis and Tone

The emphasis and tone have the power to completely change the message that is being communicated. Often, you will say something to a person and they may become offended. When you express that the words you used were intended to be inoffensive, the other person will tell you that it was your tone of voice that was the issue.
 Body Language

You can dramatically increase the effect of your communication by leaning toward the speaker or shifting your weight forward onto the balls of your feet. If you can face the person directly and give them direct eye contact, combined with fully-focused attention, you double the impact of what you’re saying.

The more you can coordinate all 3 of these ingredients, the more impactful your message will be and the greater likelihood that the other person both understands and reacts the way you want them to.

The most important part of good communication is clarity. When you ask or say something clearly and then wait calmly and patiently for a complete answer, you will be amazed at how much more quickly the process of sending and receiving takes place.

The very best communicators are those who are the very best at asking for the things they want.

They ask questions to uncover the real needs and concerns of the other person. They ask questions to illuminate objections and problems that the other person might have with what they’re suggesting.

When you seek first to understand, by asking questions and listening carefully to the answers, and by presenting your viewpoint and your requests in such a way that they are consistent with the interests of the other person, you’ll become much more effective in getting the other person to act in a way that will be beneficial to both of you.

Once you can master the skill of effective communication, not only do you achieve incredible clarity in what you think, say and do, but you’ll also become known as a respected communicator everywhere you go.

Rehearsals and Great Performance

I have been working with my mentors and speaking coaches for about a week now concerning my next Speech Project; Vocal Variety. Vocal variety is the 6th  Speech Project in the Competent Communication Manual of the Toastmasters International.
These team of wonderful people who despite their busy schedules have taken out time to help hone my speaking skills and bring me to an alignment with my gift and  message;  This got to its peak in a 2hours rehearsal two days ago, all in readiness for a 7-minute speech. Their selfless effort and dedication emphasizes to me the invaluable need of a great rehearsal. Rehearsals are necessary for great performances.
A great performance  by a great Opera usually will take minutes but little or nothing is usually known of the days and hours of preparation that produces  a great performance.

Every great performance is achieved by a great team. Just like singing, speaking also shares a lot of similarities with such performances and the best rehearsals are those done in a group or supported by a team of people.

A reflection on this evinces the need for proper preparation and effective team work for the success of any endeavour. While I hope for my best performance so far, I won't stop pushing the frontiers of my improvement.
