RESETSSION....My notes and Overview

RESETSSION ! This is not a typographical error rather it was the theme of the grand event organized by Uche Ahubelem Center for Human Development (UACHD) which held at Shell Hall, Muson Centre at Onikan Lagos on Wednesday 23rd, 2017. The event had a lineup of great speakers, life-coaches, entrepreneurs and captains of industries.

 The sole aim of the conference was to inspire and mentor young people with a  view to helping them rethink, reinvent and re-channel their energy while giving fresh drive to their dreams in this period of recession.

UACHD is the brain child of Mr Uche Ahubelem, a highly motivated  and results-oriented executive specializing in growth, turn around and value creation. This seasoned motivational speaker and business man is the  Group Managing Director, CEO of Brick Wall Group of Companies, with investments cut across a wide range from Real estate, Construction, Transport, Oil and Gas, Shipping and Entertainment.

Uche Ahubelem Center for Human Development. (UACHD) is a not for profit organization which started in 2015 with the main aim of spotting, nurturing and equipping the Nigerian youth with the right tools and resources for them to excel in any chosen fields. UACHD has launched many viable projects since inception and core at the center of its belief is that national infrastructure is a waste without human infrastructure.

The programme tagged 'resetssion' which is a blend of two words 'reset' and recession was the 5th edition of the UACHD flagship programme. The seminar which was well attended by many participants was targeted at helping young entrepreneurs and individuals overcome challenges while using recession as a center-point while giving them fresh paradigms within which they can rethink, re-invent and re-position themselves.

The programme had a lineup of 7 great Speakers who all did great justice to their topics and shared great value with all participants. The lineup of speakers were made up of Mr Lanre Olusola,Africa's premier Life, Mind, Emotions and Behavioral Coach, Ms Abimbola Adebakin,Mr Debo Adejana,an astute real estate entrepreneur, Mrs Ini Abimbola, Prof Pat Utomi, Prof. Charles Soludo and the 7th Speaker who was the convener himself Mr Uche Ahubelem.

The programme which began with an opening prayer by Olusegun Ore (Head ICT, Brickwall group), welcome adrress by K. D Oniyide (Project Coordinator) followed by introduction of UACHD by Chioma Ogbona (Administrative Secretary of UACH) and Sponsor's address was read by Zainab Maduagwu. The event was further spiced up with Break, Question and Answer (Q&A) sessions and refreshments.

There was so much value shared by the speakers, the first speaker Mr Lanre Olusola, founder of Olusola Lanre Coaching Academy shared extensively on 13 mistakes people make during a recession, part of these are, lack of strategic financial plan, lack of emotional intelligence, gratefulness and others.

The other speakers did justice to their topics and the event went on into a very rich Q&A session from which many questions were entertained and value was also shared.

Some of the points made by the speakers in the Q&A before delving into final words were;  Prof Charles Soludo former Central bank Governor and economist noted that the need for personal responsibility that "nobody will teach you how to be great" adding that "you have to know yourself and follow your passion.."

Mrs Ini Abimbola, CEO and Lead Consultant at Thistle Prixis Consulting Limited noted that not everybody can go through the rigours of being an entrepreneur but that people need to search themselves for grit, gut and determination to start and go through, she said this while sharing from her experience.

Prof Pat Utomi, leadership and entrepreneurship expert while answering a question noted that we all have been called to be entrepreneurs or 'co-creators with God' according to the Scriptures in Genesis 2:15 but not everyone responds to this call, he further shared that success is good but impact is better and everyone should strive for impact in the long run.

Ms Abimbola Adebakin, CEO for Advantage Health Africa while answering a question on capital reveals her belief in possibility of  starting a business on  zero capital with right priorities  and emphasis placed on building sufficient intellectual and social capital the Certified performance Technologist and former COO of Tony Elumelu Foundation in her final words urged participants to seek to apply acquired knowledge to the end of achieving desired results as this justifies the investment of time and resources into the event.

Mr Uche also reiterated the need for self-discovery and follows one's path to success.

I had a great time at the event where I did glean all I could for the short time I was there. I also had a wonderful time networking and joyfully gave away two copies of my book, Bright Ideas, to two of the Speakers.

Big thanks to the organizers for this empowerment program. The event was a success and I believe more testimonies of Successful entrepreneurs will arise from this event.

The Lady I Wooed on the Bus...

It was a particular morning sometimes last week and I had hopped on a long bus heading towards Lagos Island probably for work, business or for whatever the need was. I got my ticket and I was comfortably seated and no sooner than I sat did I have a pretty lady come sit down on the second chair beside me.

I had just sat down to continue to reading a book and then went on to catch up with emails and numerous notifications from Facebook or WhatsApp. I was drawn into what I was doing and did not even look to my side to engage my bus partner like I usually do. While on-board public buses- especially the long BRT buses, more often than not, I try to engage or chat up the person sitting beside me. This could be a bad or good habit and the experience may vary depending on the nature of the people, but I always like to say an 'hi' no matter what.

I love reading while commuting, it's a luxury you get moving around when not driving but while driving, the experience of listening to audio books is also a time saver- an education behind the wheels, depending on what you listen to.

When I am on Public buses, I do a greeting or a chat with the person beside me if it's necessary , then I will settle down to look around and pore over some pages of a good book as we move along. Once in a while I will sit beside a man or woman who will engage me further than I intended depending on the topic of discussion, some will decry the state of the economy or the weather or what-not or what needs to be and I will air my views with no arguments... some arguments usually are unfruitful, leading really to no fruitful ends.

Now, back to the day and time on the bus with this pretty lady beside me because this is about her, it is her story ...
It is the story of the lady, I had 'wooed' or talked into considering taking her art work to the next level while sitting with me on the bus.

I looked beside me away from the book and she was scrolling through her phone, then I continued reading and enjoying Stepping into Greatness by Francis Wale Oke, a very great book. As the bus moved on and the bouts of breeze began to flow in, I began to notice some activities going on beside, I settled down and enjoyed the story... I mean the lessons or teachings from the book...  This time I had to look at my 'neighbor' to know what was really going on...I saw this bright green colored paper craft she held in her hands, she had brought out a tube of white glue from her leather bag and began to fix some shining stones on the well-designed crown craft, at that point I decided to engage her in a short chat, while appreciating her creativity, I got to know about her works in crafts and the business she has around it, I listened until I popped up the question to which she gave an answer that left me dazed!

I asked this lady the question...'How Do you use social media to showcase your arts and crafts'? Then she replied 'I am not a social media person '. I paused to digest or understand her answer carefully. She elicits from her answer a form of seriousness and sense of principle that leaves no time whatsoever for such ‘frivolities’ as being on social media. I was stunned by this response...'Who does that in this age?' I thought to myself.

I actually know a couple of lovely people who will never be caught dead on social media but most of them are not millennial and some even make use of social media as a 'spying or close monitoring tool' yet, they are 'not social media persons'.

I smiled and asked this lady 'Why?' she wasn't going to consider the leverage of social media, she replied, telling me she gets her job mostly through referrals or once in a while from a friend who helped her put something on Instagram sometimes ago. She proved strongly that what if there were no such things as social media platforms, would she not go ahead and do her thing?
Now the bus had almost gotten to her bus top but I did manage to push in a point with an analogy...

I asked If she ran a successful business but she could use some help and here am I as a friend holding to her a cheque for a millionaire dollars to her with no strings attached would she take it from me or just shooed me away without collecting it?

She replied in the affirmative. Then I explained to her the new world that awaits her if she could use the free leverage of social media and stop leaving lots of money on the table.
I went on to share few tips and share some paid solution plan with her to help take her business to the next level.

Update On My New EBook And The 100 Days Of Value Challenge...

I am still new to this app or the challenge itself but I plan to raise my writing game to generate more value and profit through writing and speaking ,the discovery of this site will help me meet many goals from writing, blogging to personal development and EBook creation.

I have put myself in a situation to write and produce a new E-book in a very short time, the goal was actually in 24 hours but It's taking longer than that, now I see that creating an EBook from the scratch actually has some other smaller but very important details.

I have therefore gone online to search for helpful tips that would fast-track the EBook creation, distribution and off course, eventual sales and profit making, while that in itself was great work to be done, this book was planned to be released on Tuesday but this might take me a couple of more days, here is an update and my sincere apologies to every prospective reader, consumer or customers of my new EBook.

In my search for these aids, I have stumbled on information of all sorts that can help me in making the book release happen successfully and on time. I have gone on and on reading till I got information upon information till I discovered one tool after another, then Gosh! the 750 words challenge website that gives a daily challenge of writing 750 words per day.

The idea of the website is to encourage people write 'private, unfiltered, spontaneous' but in a daily manner. How best to learn to write than to write and how best to make a habit of any act than to engage in it daily.

Writing these numbers of words daily will really help grow my writing, growth is not always easy, usually It will come at a price but the gains are usually immense.

Following these through will also help push the limits on my blogging and help draw out more value I intend to share in my ongoing 100 Days of Value.

The 100 Days of value happening on Facebook and all my social media platforms is strategic to many goals I am working on in the second half of this year. The challenge began on the 15th of August, 2017 with the very aim of sharing a lot of value with everyone in my space through articles, my blog, Facebook posts, video and along the line returning my podcasts with a more sustainable strategy .

Within these 100 days (now on day 9), I intend to do more of EBook creation while transforming my blog and the way I run it. I have run my blog for over 5 years, beginning from the latter part of my University days, but now I am taking it to the next level where I run it as a business. It has to be run now as a business with all professionalism; my email marketing which is key to all of these is being finalized this week. My blogging platform blogger has served me and I have had an attachment to it over the years, but this relationship might come to an end soon.

I have long contemplated a migration to WordPress and I am ready to explore the unlimited power of blogging on the new platform right now.

I am more of a Speaker than a Writer, but the truth is that while I love writing, I hardly write 750 words most times, I have only written 750 or more words when I am highly Inspired or when i write along some topics of interest or certain circumstances. However, I have learnt that great writers have learnt to write to be inspired rather than wait to be inspired to write! More so, most great Speakers also write great speeches. These mini-challenges within the 100 day challenge will help me work on creating a habit around this.

I am not anywhere close to my Book creation target for the year but I am set to channel the energy in this 100 Day Challenge towards it. The Idea behind the challenge is Growth, in all respects. For my next EBook and a couple of new EBooks that will be released in a frequent order in the next couple of months, I already have most manuscripts ready and fresh contents are also being created along side. I am also leveraging on all past and current contents from all my platforms.

More central to this is the system around it all which is also being created. While the aim is delivering best value, yet I am ready to get it done, perfect and refine it as we go along.
